Posted by admin under Uncategorized
University City is the title of the place where the campuses and neighborhoods of the universities are situated. University City occupies the territory of West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It has the following boundaries: the Schuylkill River to the east; Spring Garden Street, Powelton Avenue, and Market Street to the north; Civic Center Boulevard, University Avenue, and Woodland Avenue to the south; and 52nd Street to the west. Firstly, University City was related only to the University of Pennsylvania, however, nowadays, it is related to the Drexel University, the University of the Science in Philadelphia, Lincoln University, PA Graduate Center, and such institutions as Children’s Hospitals of Philadelphia, 30th Street Station, and Cira Center as well.
However, on should not mix two different notions such as University City and University City District. As it has been already mentioned, University City is the tile for the campuses and neighborhoods. University City District is the title for private organization, a non-profit one, which is created by the University of Pennsylvania in order to provide the territory with the safety and marketing services. The University City District is always criticized as it exceeds its commission.
Hope this article will help you to avoid some misunderstandings and confusion you may come across while speaking about the University City and University City District.
